Stephen Harausz speaking in front of Oasis Development

A newly completed section of the homegrown "cyber office block" along Munroe Street will be unveiled Wednesday, just two weeks after the owners of a Burlington based computer company confirmed they are bringing upwards of 200 jobs to Lynn.

Oasis Development Enterprises, which developed the Goldblock project with the city, will show off 16,000 square feet of commercial space in former retail space along Munroe. The hallmark of the new "cyber office" is equipment that provides future tenants with a high-speed connection to Shore.Net, Lynn's flagship Internet service.

"This level of connectivity is unique" Oasis Chief Financial Officer, Jeff Gibbons said, adding, "It's a strategic advantage for the business that will locate at Goldblock. You can't get better access to the Internet." The city and Oasis - one of the Lynn's major commercial property owners -- combined forces beginning in 1998 to transform Goldberg's Furniture and the retail stores around it into 21st century office space for companies that do business on the Internet.

Oasis has invited $2 million in the Goldblock project, and city Development Director Stephen Harausz has made it a top economic development priority for the city. He helped secure state tax benefits that make the project more affordable for Oasis.

Over the next two years, Oasis and the city plan to cover 20,000 square feet in the Sherry Building into office and build a 50,000-square-foot office and retail building on Munroe in addition to parking available off Oxford Street. "This is really a collaborative venture," Gibbons said regarding the city's involvement in the project.

Goldblock has also become a catalyst for other Internet firms, including Shore.Net, which has been bought by a larger firm and is planning to relocate to the former Phillips Lighting Building on the Lynnway.

The Philips complex is also slated to be the new home of Lightbridge.com, which confirmed two weeks ago that it will open a Lynn office that will specialize in connecting high-tech firms to a transatlantic fiber optic cable that makes its landfall in Lynn.
